I wore jeans to the office today, in VIOLATION of the office "dress code". I was planning to hide in my office most of the day, since my officemate is out, but I've somehow managed to run into everyone today. One of my co-workers came in to drop off some plants for us, one of which he left behind my chair. So now, every time I lean my chair back, I get a Cleome in the ear.

I went to the CD store last night and scored a CD off my Wish List, then ordered two others I've had my eyes on.

Oh, the reason I'm a rebel and wore jeans? I have a date tonight. I didn't want to wear symphony clothes to work.

See, first I thought that said "sympathy clothes," which seemed weird, like you were going to a funeral after work.

All the more reason to slow down and enjoy the scenery, my friend.

So presumably you'll be changing? Or is it OK now to wear jeanz to the symphony?

(Hell, I'm wearing jeans now, it being Friday and all. Plus they've relaxed the policy for the summer.)

I always wear something nice to the symphony. I see people wear jeans occasionally, but like saying "irregardless" or "supposably", just because people do it doesn't make it right.

Hope it's a good date. What will you be listening to tonight?

Tonight it's Beethoven's Ninth. It may sound trite, but few orchestras put it on their regular season programs, so getting to hear the entire thing live is quite a treat. In addition, my companion said she's never heard it all.

Coincidentally, the last time the BSO played this in the summer, I brought a date then, too.

Beethoven's Ninth is trite? Man. I actually know what you mean with that, but even if it's well-known and used in every commmercial these days, it's still a great piece of music.

We went to see the CSO perform it and sat about in the seats that are balconies over the stage, just to stage right of the chorus. It was awesome!

Used in every commercial? Nah, that'd be Carmina Burana... ;)
"Trite" may have been a poor word choice. It and Beethoven's Fifth are probably the best-known classical works ever, which is simultaneously a reason why it is and isn't played more often.

And color me jealous on seeing it with the CSO!

Hey, I'm just glad I've heard of it! I got a mailer the other day from our symphony trying to get me to subscribe to their season. I won't, but I'm considering going to a show or two - I don't do that very much for some reason, so it would be a nice change of pace.

However, my classical music knowledge is...not so deep.

You should! I looked at their website (assuming you mean the San Diego Symphony), and there are some great, easily approachable programs there. If you want any specific recommendations, feel free to ask!

Actually I lied. The SD Symphony DID send me something, but the one I just got was actually the San Diego Chamber Orchestra. (www.sdco.org)

I'm generally partial to piano and strings, and there were a few on their schedule (next year, sheesh!) that I thought about.

Their outgoing music directory used to conduct the symphony back home (the one my mom plays in), but that was 20+ years ago.

Almost all of those are good concerts.
