New York, New York, it's a helluva town

Second trip to New York City in about a month. This time was for my a cappella group's visit to JTS at Columbia. It's a one-day festival on a Sunday in February, with Jewish a cappella groups from mostly the Northeast, but there was also Ohio State and Michigan too.
Anyway, first I drove up to Stacey's place so she and I and her friend Patty could drive to Weehawken to stay with their friend Michelle. We were leaving pretty early because the girls wanted to spend lots of time doing stuff, they just hadn't figured out what yet. We ended up taking the bus to Times Square, eating at a place called Texas Texas at 48th & Broadway (a complete tourist trap), visiting Rockefeller Center, and then singing along with the ice rink sountrack. The girls were going shopping and I was going uptown to my brother's for dinner, so we parted company after watching the dudes break-dancing in the Herald Square subway station.
My brother's place was pretty nice; it was especially bigger than their old place, the closet in the Village. It was also really freaking hot, even with the AC on. He made his mother-in-law's lasagna, which was really good. I couldn't hang out with them very long, as I was heading back downtown to meet with
cosmopolitenne and have dessert at Raffaela's. We had a nice time but she had to get back to Penn to catch a train and I had to be up early anyway.
Sunday morning we were supposed to be at JTS at 7:45, but because of alarm clocks not working right, two different cars getting a total of three flat tires, and trains not on schedule, we didn't all meet up until almost 9:00, about when we were supposed to have our sound check. One of the songs we sang was an Israeli dance tune, and the JTS/CU/Barnard dance troupe got up and danced to our sound check, which was really cool. Then later, when we were warming up, the group from Vassar wanted to sing a song with us that they also knew. They were all really cool, and if things go well, we might have a guest group for our spring concert. My brother and his wife came to hear our part of the concert, which I was happy about because it'll most likely be my last year there. The concert went off really well, but it took Stacey and I forever to get back home. I was so tired I took part of this morning off work, and I'll just make the time up later.

Date: 2004-02-11 01:06 pm (UTC)I wouldn't hold my breath for a private performance, but my group is performing at a shul in Silver Spring on Saturday the 21st. If you're interested, maybe get a few people together!
