Boy, I've had better days than today. My allergies seem to be acting up, because I'm all sniffly and keep blowing my nose.
This is weird because, previously, the only thing I noticed being allergic to was the Jordan River, and that's nowhere near the Chesapeake. I had better not be coming down with something.
Then, I get the e-mail:
Dear Brothers,
Sunday at around 5pm Dan Goldstein was killed in a car accident while driving home for a Second Night Seder with his family. He was driving alone, and I don't know the details. His burial will most likely be some time Tuesday April 26th.[etc...]
Dan was my "big big" brother in the fraternity in college. He graduated two years before me and last I'd heard, was working in the Philly area. His family is in the Norfolk area somewhere. The last time I saw him was probably the last time there was a reunion at school, spring of 2002 I think. I'd had his number in my phone since, but never called him or anything. That's not that unusual, given that I hardly speak to any of my college friends, not even my "big" brother, and Dan & I didn't hang out much when we were living in the same house. You just never know when stuff like this will happen and it'll be too late to say anything.
