Yes! Front Row!
Apr. 5th, 2005 04:11 pmForget whatever I said yesterday about the week not getting off to a good start. Last night at Columbia rehearsal, I got there early, as I usually do, and sat a while copying Hänsel & Gretel bowings from Paul's music. By the time rehearsal started, there were still a few second violins, including my stand partner, missing. The principal second, Chris, comes in and tells me that her stand partner isn't coming tonight, and to pick up my stand and bring it to the front. As in, the front row, right next to the principal firsts and violas and right under the conductor! =D Usually, I sit on the outside of the section, at the fourth stand, and just like that, I got to skip ahead a few places. Chris told me that if the regular person there is still sick and can't play the concert, I'll get to sit there.
What a moral quandary, as I mentioned to a few people in #straightdope last night. Do I wish another person remains ill so that I get a more visible seat, or hope she gets well, relegating me back to supporting the back of the section? I guess we'll see what happens by Thursday. Still, it was really fun sitting there, and knowing Chris had that much respect for me to ask me to sit next to her.
Any local people available to come to the concert? ;)
