Tonight I had to haul ass home from work because the city was having its annual "Light up the Washington Monument" night. As I live only a block away from it, and it started at 5:30, I knew there'd be no way I'd get any parking unless I got home early. Also, I have my violin lesson at 6:00 so I had to get ready for that.
I guess I should have spent more time getting ready because the lesson didn't go so well. Clearly my mind was somewhere else, as I'm still having intonation and position shifting problems. I know I'm not practicing the right way but it's hard to know exactly what will happen when I get to my lesson. Certainly not what happens when I practice. It's frustrating when I'm spending all this money and not progressing as fast as I'd like.
The monument lighting was cool, however. COLD is more like it... They had a few male a cappella groups, one of which looked like a collegiate group. I think they were called The Gilman Travelling Men or something. The sound reinforcement wasn't great, though. I could barely hear them over the crowd noise, but they were only singing Christmas carols anyway. They did have fireworks and stuff, but all the crowd barriers made it tough to navigate. Then I went over to The Walters for some wassail (just hot cider, really) and got kicked out of the Egypt exhibit. I hope my violin survived all that standing in the cold.
