"Lord of the Rings" Symphony
Dec. 8th, 2004 10:40 pmDAMN that was a long sit... I felt bad for the 10-or-so-year-old kid next to me who was fidgeting almost the entire time, as even my legs were starting to cramp up. So, yeah, the LotR Symphony... the BSO was playing it, along with the Baltimore Choral Arts Society, Maryland Boys Choir, two female soloists, a boy soprano, movie screen showing the conceptual art, pianos, harps, a butt-load of percussion, and probably anybody walking outside the theater in a tuxedo tonight. I'd never seen the Meyerhoff stage so packed.
The music is basically a lot of highlights of the twelve hours' worth of music Howard Shore wrote for the three movies, condensed down into six loosely joined movements. Fellowship's music is in the first half and the other two movies in the second, but that makes for a loooong second act. And, if you're like me and already own all three soundtrack CDs, there isn't much new material to hear. But it's quite a spectacle, so I'd recommend it for any fan of the movies and/or music.
