Concert Update
Oct. 18th, 2004 11:01 amOne down, two to go. I was exhausted after yesterday's, and it was at 3:00 in the afternoon! The whole thing was very weird and informal, almost like a high school concert. I sat in my usual seat (principal second) and my stand partner from Tuesday sat next to me, and two people who turned out to be Baltimore Symphony musicians sat behind us. My stand partner made some unflattering comments to them, which really made me want to slap her. I think a lot of people were nervous, as a number of mistakes were made (I was no exception), but on the whole it didn't turn out too badly. I got to talk to the one BSO violinist for a while and asked him what it was like working with their conductor and concertmaster. He'd been playing with them for 20+ years, going back to when our conductor was a violinist there. I also talked a little to our concertmaster and complained about my stand partner. He said she was "like that" and not to pay attention to her; I'm the "section leader" now. Unfortunately, I discovered that the program says otherwise, so I think I'm going to have a little talk with the manager at Tuesday's rehearsal.
