Another Long Day
Sep. 21st, 2004 09:47 amSo yesterday morning, I get out of the shower, start brushing my teeth and all, when the lights dim and then completely go out. I don't have a lot of windows in my apartment, and it was about 6:30, so there isn't a lot of ambient light. I managed to get myself dressed, my lunch made, and grab the stuff I'd need for rehearsal in Columbia. It wasn't just my block, it was several blocks downtown and scores of traffic signals out, too. Turns out there was a fire in a manhole somewhere near City Hall (about 1/2 a mile from my apartment) earlier in the morning. Beats me why, if the fire was at 1:00 in the morning, it took 5 1/2 hours for the power to go out. I wouldn't be coming back until about 11 PM, so all I cared about was power coming back on before then.
Rehearsal went pretty well again. I guess I'm a full member of the Columbia Orchestra now, since nobody told me to go home. I should still bone up on scales and repertoire, in case they ask me to play for seating or something. Luckily I didn't have the same stand partner as last time. When it gets closer to concert time, I'll post the information in case anyone wants to go.
Between the holiday last week and coming up this weekend, I'm running really short on time. I had a full weekend, too. As
gingy mentioned before, I came over Saturday and helped Dave move furniture around their house, for a meal, some pie, and Canadian Coke. On Sunday LĂșthien and I checked out the Baltimore Book Festival and our usual walking around. We also walked to the top of the Washington Monument, which was definitely cool, but I wished I'd brought my camera. =(
Down at the Inner Harbor we encountered a street-corner preacher yelling about Creation and fire & brimstone and all that. I wanted to give him the brochure from the Mount Vernon Methodist Church I'd been given earlier, but I decided against it. After that I drove down to Dad's to visit with them and see my cousin, who was visiting from England.
The rest of the week:

The rest of the week:
- Tonight is rehearsal with the BPO, for which I recruited a friend of my mother's who'd recently moved to town and is looking for performance opportunities.
- Wednesday I actually get to practice and hopefully clean up a little.
- Thursday is my lesson, then
gingy and I are going to the symphony. - Friday my brother and I are going to Hopkins for dinner and Kol Nidrei services.
- Saturday morning is more services and G-d knows what else.
- Sunday is Dad's birthday and family gatherings. Then I collapse.
