Thanks and Poll for Everyone

Thanks to everyone who wrote a birthday greeting for me! Even Stacey, who's been telling me for the last five days just so she won't forget.

I actually have a somewhat serious poll idea, but I can't post real polls. After thinking about my entry last night, I want to ask people's opinions:

Poll #whatever Have you told somebody you know in real life (that you discuss in LJ) that you have a weblog? How did it go over (i.e. uncomfortable, offended, whatever)?

I've told a few people. The people I've told haven't been people who are real involved in online communities, so I've had to describe what LJ is, and why one would have it.

I think they think it's quaint. But nobody's thought I'm a freak for it. One of these days, I'll mention it, and someone will Get It.

But were you telling someone whom you've talked about in LJ? That's what I really wanted to get people's opinions about. Some people aren't too flattered to know they're being discussed on the Internet.

Ah. I think I've talked about my coworkers on LJ. They know (I think) that I'm here. They definitely know I'm on SDMB.

But they most definitely DO NOT know that I've bitched about 'em. I may have on occasion said I was discussing online something innocuous we've talked about. That isn't a big deal, because it's just raising the same topic, not specifically discussing things about them.

I've told both my parents in passing and they know that I talk about them to some extent. Neither seemed to care either way.
