Obama to speak Saturday at Baltimore's War Memorial Plaza

So, President-Elect Obama is going to be speaking about half a mile from where I live. I knew in advance because the city police have put up "no parking" signs for Saturday all up and down my street (which is the main route from the train station to the speech venue). Am I an idiot for not wanting to go? They're expecting 100,000 people to show up in a space that can hold probably a third of that. "Doors" open 3 hours before the speech, and with the security checks and all, it would mean standing in 20° weather for maybe four hours. The local TV stations will be carrying the speech live, anyway, so why not stay warm inside?

Also, I don't believe the man is our Savior. To quote Stephen Colbert (I think), "even Jesus had to do stuff before he got his own holiday."

I don't think you're an idiot.... I mean, I'm as liberal as liberal can be, and I'm really excited that Obama is going to be our president. But I think that I can be excited on my couch. Where it is warm, and there are bathrooms.

Seriously, dude, I'm getting a little annoyed at the Obama worship. I mean, everyone wants and needs hope, things are screwed up big time, but he is just ONE MAN. He will make mistakes. Hopefully not too many, and hopefully not colossal ones, but he is also part of a larger government that still exists. He's not going to change everything on Tuesday.

As much as I like the idea of seeing him live, I don't think I'd want to deal with the hassle involved in making that happen. Like you said, it'll be on TV. So no, you're not an idiot for not wanting to go. (But where are you going to park, OMG?)

Savior, no. Someone who can hopefully make some things better? I hope so. Obviously, he's not going to be able to fix everything, much less overnight. Things like that take time, unless you're Dubya, who can fuck everything up seemingly overnight. :P

I don't think I'd want to be anywhere near that place on Tuesday-I can't imagine the chaos! Now, as for TV-I'm majorly disappointed that I have to work and can't see the inauguration. :( After all, this IS history. (And yes, I voted for Obama)


I guess it's kind of how I feel about Sunday's game-I'm majorly rooting for the Black and Gold-but there's no way I'd want to be at Heinz Field.

I must have been lucky because I found a completely legal space two blocks away at 5:30 last night.
I went out about an hour ago to check out the streets and the crowds. The streets are empty; they had to have been towing cars all night, and the line to get into the War Memorial plaza snaked through several blocks downtown. I came back home where I can watch on TV. =)
