Just another weekend update
Mar. 8th, 2004 10:50 pmYes, Verizon finally turned me back on someday Friday afternoon. Seems something went wrong in the home office and they didn't find it until then. But it'd been the end of a long week and I needed to blow off steam, so I got drunk enough that I barely remember walking back and talking to my friend on the phone.
Saturday was JHU's Purim party, where my singing group was performing. It was Stacey's last performance with us, and you can read all about it. All told, everything went off very well, even if all the grad students (and many of the undergrads) left by the time we performed.
Sunday morning I went as a guest of a co-worker to her church's screening of The Passion of the Christ, with her husband and another co-worker. I'll write the same things I've been telling everyone: 1) I had to keep telling myself that, like Braveheart, this was Mel's version of events, and 2) the life and teaching of Christ apparently wasn't as important to the movie as his suffering and death. It was little more than Mel's preaching to the converted, as it were, because it certainly wasn't a movie for non-Catholics. I was expecting to get preached at, either by the movie or the pastor. Instead, theirs was one of those progressive churches that meets in an elementary school, and has a rock band and multimedia presentations.
After that I did my usual Sunday thing of visiting my dad, which this time involved taking him to the hardware store so he could get supplies for his latest home-improvement project. After that was rehearsal (elections actually), dinner and gossiping with Stacey and Brielle. My phone battery had been dead for most of the day, so when I finally got it charged I had missed several calls from LĂșthien, who wanted to see me. Oh well, not like I'd have had time anyway.
Oh, and on the positive side, I installed a fancy electronic thermostat last Thursday, so I shouldn't have any more out-of-control heating bills.
