Salad? Puhlease, that makes it sound healthy. It's just Ambrosia, the food of the gods!

I'd always heard it called "ambrosia" too, but according to Wikipedia, that's something different (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ambrosia_(fruit_salad)).

Ambrosia was the only name in the poll I recognized, and I know it as described in the Wikipedia article. Maybe some people use it more generically to refer to anything with fruit and marshmallow?

[x] have never heard of it before this!

Maybe it's an East Coast or southern thing? Get someone to bring it to the next LJI office party!

I grew up in SF, and it was a staple at Filipino family gatherings in the '80s.

Mom called it Five Cup Salad, but there weren't any stinkin' pistachios in it. A cup each of pineapple, mandarins, mini marshmallows, coconut, and (I think?) sour cream.

Not pistachios themselves, but pistachio pudding.

I have no idea what it's really called but when we've had it at family gatherings, it's just been called the "fruit salad dessert" or something non-specific like that.

Don't think it's an east coast thing, as I've seen it all over.

Watergate Salad must be a local thing, because no one used that answer in my poll, but several people at the office knew it by that name.

In my fambly, we call it "green stuff."

Clever, huh?

Never heard of it, but it doesn't sound appetizing to me...

Yet you still answered "disgusting". Clearly, you don't know what you're missing. ;)

As Mike said, you don't know what you're missing. It's HEAVENLY.

Can I answer twice? In stores I've seen it called Watergate, but when my mom makes it (with mandarin oranges and walnuts), it's called Ambrosia.
