Chamber Music

Happy 30th anniversary of Star Wars! Although maybe I should have posted about this on Friday.
It's been a pretty relaxing weekend. On Saturday my friend Paul invited me to a "chamber music marathon" taking place in DC near Rock Creek Park. It was just 15 or so people getting together to play various quartets, trios, quintets, etc. When I got there, I had missed the Brahms F Minor piano quintet, and a group was playing a Schubert quintet on the back porch. That's how I knew I was at the right house.
I got to play the second violin part (of four) to Mendelssohn's Octet, but we were short one violinist. I don't think that made too much difference because it's still a really hard piece. Then, for the "third period", a Mozart clarinet quintet formed on the porch, but there was an extra cellist. We discovered that Schubert's "Trout" quintet is also scored for two celli, instead of celli and bass. So, I got to play (*sightread*) the violin part thereof. After that, most of us were too tired to keep going. Still, fun way to spend a day. Nothing much else going on, though.
