Me and My Shadow

av8rmikeI wish I could find more time to update that wasn't on Monday, after I've forgotten everything that happened over the weekend. Today my manager informed me I'd be shadowed by a local high school senior interested in my company's type of work. I spent most of my day explaining my work to him, and he seemed interested, even if he wasn't able to parrot back to my manager what I'd taught him. Luckily he had to leave early, so I could get some work done in the afternoon.
This weekend my brother came down to stay with my dad and visit some friends in the area, including one of my dad's longtime students who became a doctor and was moving away. The last time I'd seen him was probably '96, and I'd never met his wife or 5-month-old son before. So I hung out with them part of the day Saturday, before heading off to the opera with Lúthien. Another friend and her family were coming, but we were lucky enough to all get rush seats. The show was Carmen, and Lúthien couldn't believe I'd never seen it and didn't even know the story of it. I thought it was pretty good; your basic tragic opera story, but apparently it wasn't as good as a typical European production. Excuuuse us. ;)
My mom had had plans back home for most of the weekend, so we couldn't really do anything with her. Instead I went back over to my dad's place for more food and looking at old photos of my grandparents and relatives until my brother had to leave. Then I came back to Baltimore to hang at a grad student party on campus, which was kinda fun. Sunday night I was finally able to practice again, but I may have pushed myself a little too hard again. We'll see if I'm well enough for a lesson this week.
