Today is primary day, or something. In Anne Arundel county, where I work, someone named Leopold is running for something. His signs don't say what, or even a first name, there are just all these red signs with white letters that say "Leopold".
What do I think of every time I drive past one? That Bugs Bunny cartoon with the mean opera singer. Bugs dresses up in a wig and tuxedo, posing as Leopold Stokowski, and enters the orchestra pit, with the musicians exclaiming "Leopold!" in turn.

I'm weird that way.

I got to play "Leopold" back in college. All the arts groups, including the orchestra, had to participate in something called the "Arts Gala." The theme for the 1994 gala was a salute to TV. I'm not kidding. Since we couldn't think of an intelligent way to perform a tribute to TV with an orchestra, we decided to do a live-action combo of the "Leopold" cartoon (without the tenor) and some Monty Python elements and other ridiculousness. I conducted the overture to "The Barber of Seville" while wearing a tux, a white wig and using a plastic chicken instead of a baton. One of our trombonists played a garden hose, an oboist got a pizza delivered during the piece, and we interrupted the entire thing to sing "The Lumberjack Song." Good times.

Wasn't I there for that?

That's frightening.

Amusing, but frightening nonetheless.
