av8rmike: Alton Brown with megaphone (AB-rant)

I decided to splurge this morning and, instead of buying coffee beans out of the bulk bins at the Giant, dropped $9.00 on 3/4 lb. of Starbucks French Roast ("Extra Bold").

More like Extra Burned. HOLY SHIT is this stuff strong.

Hmmm, so it's strong, but do you like it?

It tastes burnt. =P I'm not going to throw it out or anything, but I doubt I'll buy it again. I can't see why people like my uncle are addicted to this stuff.

Ick, don't know. I like coffee if it's *good* coffee. Smooth and rich, but not burnt or too bitter. French Roast is hard for me to drink because it's so burnt tasting to me. I like a good Sumatra, or Kenyan, or Jamaican Blue Mountain -- blends that are a litle more balanced, not quite as acidic. Mmmmm. But, too 'spensive and I don't like it that much! *goes off to make tea*

Not that I know anything about coffee, because I don't. I just know what I like and what I don't. :)

Yeah, Sumatra is my favorite. It's very rich and a little chocolate-y. Some people describe it as "muddy", but I prefer "earthy". Anyway, it's the good stuff. I don't like the Latin American coffees because they tend to be too acidic.

What I'm saying is, we could share coffee.

I seem to recall liking Sumatra, but not liking the Blue Mountain my mom had that one time. There was something about the taste; maybe it was the acid. Don't know if I ever had coffee from Kenya.

*mental note to brew you Sumatra*

I'm not sure what the Kenyan you can buy in stores here is like. The stuff I had came back from Kenya with an ex's sister. I should see if she still has any.
