Concert Review X-post
Mar. 10th, 2006 10:58 pmThis is just a follow-up to
bunrab's review last night of the Baltimore Symphony.
Ein Heldenleben is a fantastic piece live, but it takes a fantastic orchestra (and concertmaster) to pull it off. Luckily, we seem to have both.
Ms. Shoji did wear the cabbage/artichoke gown again. I wasn't nearly so distracted by it, so I could concentrate on her playing. It was technically excellent, but there still seemed to be something lacking in the performance. I guess I just like my Heifetz recording better.
Sorry,
ceallaighgirl, but my camera battery was dead and I didn't have time to charge it. It didn't matter; Ms. Shoji didn't make an intermission appearance, as many soloists in Baltimore do. What was annoying and distracting, however, was someone whose camera did work, and was using it, with flash, during the performance.
