Memorial Day Party!
Jun. 1st, 2004 02:27 pmBig thanks here to
Anita for hosting a great party Sunday and putting me up for the night. In case you were concerned, I did make it to my dad's place and home OK. It was great seeing
Oxymoron and his boyfriend again, too, as they were in town from New York.
Earlier in the day, I took the Metro downtown to check out the WWII Memorial and all the other goings-on. I'd heard of Rolling Thunder before, but until seeing it, I'd never really appreciated the scope of it and how many people show up. Also, how LOUD the whole thing is. Unfortunately, the bikers on Constitution Ave. were between me and a half-smoke stand, so I had to walk around and find a different one. The WWII monument is nice enough, but I don't really understand the point of its design. I guess the greatest generation, who fought in the greatest war, deserves the greatest monument. At least, that's the way it feels.
I had an hour or so left to kill before heading off to the party, so I saw the National Gallery of Art for the first time.
Saturday I was in need of getting out, since the weather was so nice. Some other friends invited me to a Sci-Fi convention, but I just couldn't justify spending $37 to get in, or the whole day inside. Also, LĂșthien somehow got sick,
Stacey was with her family, and everyone else seemed to be out of town. So I got on the road and after driving west for a while, decided to visit Harper's Ferry and see what was there. Answer: Some Civil War history and hopefully nice photographs, but not a whole lot else.
If I'd planned better, I'd have reserved a plane for the day. I couldn't have asked for a nicer day.
