Ughhh.. Tonight was the last Philharmonia rehearsal before next Sunday's concert. And, it was the first time we've had "everyone" there since the last concert, in December. My mean stand partner was back, trying to understand the stuff I'd written all over the music and I trying to keep her from erasing the important stuff. The conductor was really upset, saying it was the worst rehearsal we've had all year. Sadly, he still doesn't seem to understand why. My friend Jacky and I spend a while talking afterwards in the parking lot about it, her joining Columbia, and all kinds of stuff.
There's a bright spot, too. Today I talked to a professor at nearby Villa Julie College who runs an orchestra there. He said it's part students and community people, but he seemed interested in having another violinist. He'd also heard of my grandfather, which is a definite plus. =) I also called the director of the orchestra at Goucher College, but haven't heard back from her yet. In Columbia, I get to be a part of the "reduced ensemble" for the Nuyts marimba concerto, as if I didn't have enough music to learn.
