The opening ceremony has been on for 25 minutes and already I'm bored. Sorry, bristlesage, I can't get into as much as you do. Only 3 hours and 35 minutes more!

Their choice of music is interesting. During the bit with the sculptures, they're playing the finale of Mahler's Third Symphony.

Speaking of music, my lessons have been going better. I got a bunch of new stuff to work on last night, and I got my teacher to help me a little with my audition piece. She didn't bring her violin, so she played mine a little, and it didn't sound all that different than when I play. So I guess it's safe to say my technique has greatly improved over the last year.

You need a TiVo or other DVR. We watched the opening ceremony but "delayed." That way we could watch other shows when we got bored and fast-forward through the parade of nations and the kid in the boat. And we still finished watching the thing by midnight. Not a bad show, but too long as usual. I can understand why some athletes don't bother with it.
