Update....
Oct. 16th, 2005 02:31 pmWell, that definitely wasn't the way I'd prefer to spend my Saturday: 12 hours in the ER at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
Yesterday morning I was volunteering (not running, as everyone seems to have thought) for the Baltimore Marathon, when I started feeling light-headed and nauseous. People thought I was dehydrated and low on blood sugar, so they brought me water and a protein bar. I still felt sick, so they walked me over to the first-aid tent. The EMTs didn't have anything else to do, so I had all of them swarming around me, sticking things on and in me. The one doctor was concerned about the pain in my back and said I should probably go over to the hospital just in case. I wasn't sure it was the best decision until I ( TMI Warning... )
At around 5:00, I called my dad, both to tell him not to come to the concert that night (since I obviously wasn't going to be playing) and to have him call one of the orchestra members. He & my stepmother drove up that evening and hung around for about 4 hours until I chose to be discharged. We got my car (still parked by the marathon route), left it by my place, then drove back to his house, where I spent the night.
I feel much, much better now, but as always these things always happen at the worst time. Besides missing the concert last night, I was supposed to meet some friends at the MD Renn Faire today. Given that the last time I went to the Faire, I came down with a case of food poisoning, maybe missing that isn't such a big deal.
