Reading

Reading entries from people like delphicaDelph and postmoderngirlKyla and my brother reminds me how little I read anymore. In late high school and most of college, the only reading I could do was for classes. Aside from things like Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion, back when the movies were coming out, I've read very little fiction. Can reading threads on a message board, no matter how informative, make up for reading an actual book? Sometimes I try to make myself feel better by telling myself that practicing eats up a lot of time too, and that's something that few other people have to do.

So, I guess I made something of a resultion this weekend. The oppressive heat spell of the last few weeks is temporarily over, and I decided that I'd just spend some time sitting and reading. I even walked over to a nearby park with a fountain and pigeons and everything. I started reading Founding Myths by Ray Raphael, all about debunking the popular mythology surrounding the American Revolution and the Founding Fathers. So far, it's pretty good and well-researched, but I've remembered why I don't do much reading nowadays: It tends to put me to sleep, or at least drive my mind to distraction when it should be stimulated. However, I'm not giving up or anything.

I have been neglecting things like practicing and cleaning the apartment, which will need to get done fairly soon. Oh, I intend to write more about Friday night, just not right now, when no one's reading... =P
