Still Here
May. 10th, 2005 08:00 amI am still alive, in case people were concerned. It's just been a combination recently of few spare moments at work and little drive to write down the little things that have been occurring recently.
Saturday was pretty interesting, though. Anna and I drove to Greenbelt and took the Metro into D.C. to go to the National Gallery and see what else we could find to do. Somehow, despite spending 2 hours there, we still managed to miss the Kandinsky and Magritte. Out on the Mall they had a big exhibition for the U.S. military, with vehicles and helicopters, and all kinds of crap. It was like an industry trade show, except for the military. My theory was that it was to spur recruitment and get kids interested.
We hopped the Metro over to Dupont Circle and explored that area for a little while, since it's been about a year since I was there last. We ate at an Indian restaurant that was completely empty, although it was still early for the dinner crowd. Anna hadn't seen the World War II monument, so we went back downtown to see that, but we were both getting tired. Then we got a little lost looking for the Metro (and stupid Farragut West was closed) so we walked down by the White House (after dark, which was cool) and got on at Metro Center. It was a pretty tiring day.
Last night's rehearsal was pretty cool because we started working on the Nuyts marimba concerto, but it's such a bizarre piece. There's so many weird rhythms, I have no clue how to learn them, and I'm one of only 10 violinists. This is my free week before all the ballet stuff goes up, thus my only chance to learn it, and do the regular lesson stuff.
