Pops Rehearsal
Mar. 22nd, 2005 08:32 amSorry, no updates in almost a week! There just hasn't been that much notable going on recently. Mostly playing around with the new computer and moving information around from the old one. I ended up getting an enclosure for the 40 gig drive from the old machine, and it's an acceptable solution. I was even able to play games and music off it, without any perceptible problems or lags. Still have to pick up a video card.
I had rehearsal last night in Columbia, as usual, this time for our "Broadway, Beatles, and Beyond" concert. "Broadway" is Phantom and Les Mis, selected pretty much because it's popular. The Phantom stuff is bizarre, though. "Music of the Night" is in a key of, like 7 or 8 sharps (violinists lose count after 5), and the "Phantom" song has cool stuff like artificial harmonics that must have completely confounded the rest of the second violin section. The "beyond" part is film music standards: Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries", Strauss' Introduction from Also Sprach Zarathustra, Barber's "Adagio", and the Main Theme from Star Wars.
For some reason, I agreed to play with the Howard County Ballet again, which is putting on "Hansel & Gretel". I got the music last night, and it looks insanely hard, much more so than Nutcracker. =( I'll have to see how hard a recording is to track down, because I hate to leave the director high & dry.
