How come, on LiveJournal, you can filter your Friends page by any number of custom friends groups, but you can't filter your own entries the same way, unless you use tags?

I have wondered the same thing.

Because all those filters merely sort by user, you can't narrow it any further than that.

So, if you make a bunch of posts filtered to a custom group "Family", then want to display just those posts, you can't, unless you've tagged them specifically. And, those tags are visible to anyone who can see the post. This behavior makes sense to you?

Right, because filters apply to users, whether for your own reading or theirs. Is there a reason why you would want certain people to be able to read a post but not see what tags you'd applied to it?
