Good Friday?

One of my co-workers, who is Catholic and likes to play music over his iPod dock, just mentioned something to me about needing to turn off the music between 12 and 3, because of Good Friday. He said "yep, no music, no TV" for these hours today.

I've been on this Earth for over 30 years and had plenty of Catholic friends, so why am I just hearing about this now? Do all the Catholics do this?

And people say we Jews have weird traditions...

I was raised Catholic, and I've never heard of this rule. We weren't hyperdevout, though; we got Good Friday off from school, but ostensibly this meant you and your family were supposed to show up for Mass all afternoon, which we generally didn't do because of my brother still being in preschool. So the 'no music, no TV' thing would have been true for anyone going to said Mass, but I think this would be more a side effect of "You Should Be In Church Thinking About Jesus' Death Right Now" than a specific edict forbidding TV and music. (After all, you'd think it'd have to be updated by now to include video games if it was that specific!)
