Rehearsals and Jason Quotes

I hardly talk about this stuff any more, without much reason. I know there's only one other person that might care, and she already knows this stuff. But whatever.

I usually play section first violin in my various orchestras. Last night in the chamber orchestra, however, we were so short-handed on second violins that I offered to play first-chair second. It was no problem for me, but if it's a permanent change will have to depend on if other players decide to return. Given how much work I have with the other orchestra and my lessons, playing second violin may actually be better for my sanity.

Now, a few Jason quotes from the last few rehearsals that have stuck with me:

"When the stars explode, that means it's trombone time!"

"...a very mean sound. [Sempre] Meanioso."

"Prokofiev totally ripped this part off of John Williams!"

"I want you to spend the next week off-beating."

Awww, poor first violinist having to play second violin ;) (It was kind of fun having you in my section, even if you didn't sit with me. :P) I still think you might have dibs on a principle chair....

And how did I miss that John Williams Jason quote? Geez.

I'm interested :)

I'm interested, too - I miss orchestra! Not in the cards to come back right now, but maybe before too long.

Thanks, I try to read all your posts when I can.

You doing the ballet orchestra again?

Hey, orchestra is great! I was always a second violin, and in the end I moved over to the violas, though.

[I played the violin for years and years and years, but the fact that I never practised got in the way of any chances to actually get good at doing so.]

Aww. I miss orchestra now. :)

I told David I would. I never actually heard back from him whether he needed me or not, though. You?

Yeah, I could see lack of practice being a factor. When did you switch to organ?

He sent out a message several weeks ago with the schedule, which you were on. You didn't get it?

Oh, I did both simultaneously for a pretty long time. I started with the piano when I was five, then a few years later the violin, and finally when I was 10 and could more or less reach the pedals, the organ. I continued with the violin until... I don't know, 15 perhaps? Not sure... But somehow, I only ever had the discipline for really long and focused practising sessions when I with the organ.

I got that one, responded to it that I was available if he needed me, and didn't get anything further. So, I'm planning to show up unless I hear from him otherwise. ;-)

I LOVE the "jason quotes."
I only played bass clarinet in the highschool band, but I get all of the jokes/quotes.

Keep sharing!
